Join Coleen Merte from Northwater Quilts as she shares her beautiful quilts and patterns.
About Coleen: I began quilting in 2001 as a hobby, after visiting our neighboring state of Indiana and falling in love with the beautiful Amish quilts there. I found quilting to be great stress relief from my fulltime job as a nurse. Before I knew it, I was teaching in several local quilt shops and thoroughly loved it. After my three children graduated from college, I began designing my own patterns in 2011, and created Northwater Quilt Designs. Since then, I have been selling my patterns at quilt shows and quilt shops across the country. I have been published in quilt magazines, and have been speaking and teaching at several quilt guilds. Meeting other quilters face-to-face and sharing my enthusiasm for the art is what I love most.
Most of my designs start with an antique block which I alter in order to create a contemporary look. I love the rich heritage of our antique quilts, but am also excited about the future trends as well. Several of my patterns have a "cover" on the back and front: one displays a traditional look and the reverse side a "modern" look. This allows the potential quiltmaker to visualize more possibilities, and allows the shop owners to display whichever side most suits the style of their shop. There is no cost to attend the trunk show.
